چکیده

Oils extracted from Cymbopogon citratus, Lantana camara, Artemisia camphorata, and Imperata cylindrica plants were used as potential insecticides against the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). The phytochemical composition of isolated oils was identified by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Oil contact toxicities evaluated adults S. oryzae. activities acetylcholinesterase (AChE), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), transaminases enzymes (AST) measured. L. camara oil (LC50 = 9.81 mg/cm2) demonstrated highest effect, followed C. citratus 10.89 mg/cm2), A. camphorata EO 16.12 I. (LC50= 36.85 inhibition percentages AChE 38.8, 41.7, 35.0, 27.2%; ALP 42.4, 49.3, 28.1, 18.7%; AST 33.9, 38.7, 20.8, 11.8%; ALT 22.7, 30.5, 14.6, 9.6% after treated with cylindrica, respectively. abundant compounds in geranial (25.95%), nerylacetal (8.85%), neral (8.45%), caryophyllene (12.2%), 3-elemene (8.89%), germacrene D-4-ol (20.83%), borneol (19.47%), 5-phenylundecane (10.68%), 6-phenyldodecane (8.70%).

Control of rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae L., Coleoptera: Curculionidae) with various formulations of Metarhizium anisopliae

Formulations of Metarhizium anisopliae conidia with oven ash, chalk powder, charcoal and wheat flour at a ratio of 1:4 (W/W) were prepared. Formulations containing charcoal and oven ash had a conidial viability half-life of 4.1–4.3 months at 2071!C. In comparison, unformulated conidia held under the same conditions had a viability half-life of 0.9 month. Bioassays carried out at 2872!C and 7075...

Insecticidal Effects of Peppermint and Black Pepper Essential Oils against Rice Weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. and Rice Moth, Corcyra cephalonica (St.)

Background: The rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae and rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica are major and cosmopolitan insect. Adults of S. oryzae (male and female) and both larvae are insatiable feeders on a great variety of grains. Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the insecticidal effect of essential oils from peppermint, Mentha piperita L. and black pepper, Piper nigrum L. ag...

Ovarian physiology and age-grading in the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Physiological and morphological changes in the ovarian system in rice weevils, Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), reared on wheat seeds were studied as a function of adult age, mating status, and nutrient availability. X-ray analysis was used to determine time of adult eclosion and the duration of development of pre-emergent weevils within the seeds, a process that lasted almos...

Fumigant Toxicity of Lamiaceae Plant Essential Oils and Blends of Their Constituents against Adult Rice Weevil Sitophilus oryzae.

To find a new and safe alternative to conventional insecticides, we evaluated the fumigant toxicity of eight Lamiaceae essential oils and their constituents against the adult rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae. Of the eight species tested, hyssop (Hyssopus offcinalis), majoram (Origanum majorana), and Thymus zygis essential oils showed strong fumigant toxicity against S. oryzae adults at 25 mg/L air...
